FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Hadley Public Library part of the CWMARS network?

Yes! HPL is a CWMARS member library, which means that you can borrow our materials with a library card from another member library, return most materials borrowed from other member libraries in Hadley (and vice versa), and make requests for materials from other libraries for pick-up in Hadley. There are many other benefits of being a CWMARS member library!

How long can I borrow library items?

That depends on the type of item!

  • Books, audio books, music CDs, and Library of Things items circulate for three weeks

  • Wi-fi Hot Spots circulate for two weeks

  • DVDs and magazines circulate for one week

With the exception of Hot Spots, all items have one renewal that will take place automatically assuming your library account is not blocked, expired, or otherwise invalidated.

Does HPL charge overdue fines?

No! In September 2022, CWMARS' Users Council voted to go fine-free as a network. As of May, 2024 95% of network libraries no longer charged fees for late materials. Lost or damaged materials, however, will still be assessed for the cost of their replacement.

I have run out of renewals, but I'm not done with my item! What do I do?

We are almost always able to extend the loan of an item from the Hadley collection for you...just ask! The only time that we cannot is when there is another patron waiting for your item. In that case we will be glad to place a hold for another copy of your item! We cannot extend the loan duration of items that belong to other libraries. If you need more time, please contact the owning library directly. They are usually happy to help.

Do you need volunteers?

We have a number of volunteers that help us with a variety of tasks at the library. The best way to find out if we need additional volunteers is to stop by and ask. Our need for volunteers ebbs and flows from month to month, but if you're interested in helping we're always glad to know!

The CWMARS catalog says that a book I want is available as an eBook or eAudio. How can I access that?

The best way to access eBooks and eAudio is by downloading the Libby app by Overdrive. Libby has many great features and is very easy to use! Learn more about Libby (and where to get it!) here. Don’t forget, you’ll need your library card and PIN to access Libby!

I forgot my PIN! / What's my PIN?

In recent years the CWMARS Evergreen system sets your Personal Identification Number as the last four digits of the phone number in your patron record by default at the time of registration. If you cannot successfully log in to Libby, the CWMARS catalog, or other online resources, contact us and we'll attempt to reset your PIN. To change your PIN, log in to the CWMARS catalog and make the change in your user settings.

How do I reserve a meeting or study space?

The library has three spaces that can be reserved for meetings or quiet study. You can read about our policies and procedures for meeting spaces here.

Can I print or scan documents at the library?

Yes, the library has ten public computers from which you can print or scan a document to. The public printer/copier also has the ability to receive an emailed attachment by email and print it. You can use the QR code next to the printer to address the email. Supported formats for emailed print jobs are:

Document files: PDF, TXT, and Microsoft Office files
Image files: JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, and TIFF

The library maintains a second printer (not on the network) that a user may connect to via our USB printer cable to print from a laptop.

The library does not have a traditional phone line, so there are no fax services available.

Does Hadley Public Library have a book club?

HPL currently offers one book club for adults (currently full). Please contact Assistant Director Susan Brown for information and/or to join the waiting list. Interested in organizing a community led book club discussion on on a specific genre or interest? Get in touch! We can never have too many book clubs!

HPL youth staff offer a “Bring Your Own Book Club” for Tweens (Ages 8-12) typically several times per month. Check the library calendar for details.

How do I sign up for a program or activity that I'm interested in?

With the arrival of our new Website you are able to sign up online for each program that you and your family are interested in. Check the individual online calendar listings for important details about each program, capacity, and intended audience. Have a question? Just give us a call or email us or send a DM via our social media accounts!
